La plaza de la Cebada es un verdadero punto de encuentro del barrio de La Latina. Una de las curiosidades de esta plaza es su forma irregular y el espacio que abarca, entre el Teatro La Latina y el Mercado de la Cebada.

Antiguamente, en esta plaza se comerciaba con cereales, legumbres y tocino, abastecidos los tenderetes con productos que entraban por la Puerta de Toledo. El nombre se debe, según Mª Isabel Gea, a que aquí se separaba la cebada destinada a los caballos del rey de la de los regimientos de Caballería.
