Paseando por Madrid: Plaza de Callao


La plaza tiene su existencia antes de la gran reforma que supuso la construcción de la Gran vía en 1910, su espacio estaba bajo el área del arrabal de San Martín. Su nombre se concedió a este espacio en honor al combate del Callao. Era una pequeña plaza que se encontraba en la calle Preciados con calle de Jacometrezo (antes de la reforma esta calle iba desde la red de San Luis). Al comenzar las obras el 4 de febrero de 1917, la plaza empezó a cobrar un área mayor (muy similar al actual). Los primeros proyectos de reforma interior consideraban un ensanche de la calle Preciados («Reforma de la Prolongación de la calle Preciados») permitiendo así una mayor capacidad viaria a la Puerta del Sol. Este proyecto quedó olvidado por el actual de la Gran Vía.

En el año 1939, tras la Guerra Civil el empresario Antonio Rodilla inicia su actividad repostera con una pequeña tienda en la plaza. En 1952 se establece en el ala sur de la Plaza los almacenes de Galerías Preciados, siendo su promotor el industrial Pepín Fernández. Ocupando el solar del edificio recién derribado del Hotel Florida (obra de Antonio Palacios). En la reforma que sufrió posteriormente, tras la inauguración del 1 de julio de 1960, la plaza cobró el aspecto actual. A finales de 2009 y principios de 2010 se peatonaliza toda la plaza y la vecina calle de Jacometrezo se acomoda para el tráfico de autobuses que anteriormente se ofrecía en la plaza.

Actualmente, por ella pasan anualmente 113 millones de personas, cuenta con espacio que permite la concentración de hasta 10.000 personas y tiene un tráfico rodado de 51.000 vehículos diarios.

Anochece en la Puerta del Sol de Madrid


La Puerta del Sol es una plaza de Madrid. Aquí se encuentra desde 1950 el denominado Kilómetro Cero de las carreteras radiales españolas. El edificio más antiguo de la Puerta del Sol es la Casa de Correos y en ella destaca el reloj de torre que fue construido y donado en el siglo XIX por José Rodríguez de Losada, y cuyas campanadas de las 12 de la noche del 31 de diciembre marcan la tradicional toma de las doce uvas a la gran mayoría de los españoles. Dichas campanadas se empezaron a televisar el 31 de diciembre de 1962 en La 1 de TVE, a partir de ese año no se ha dejado de retransmitir por diversos canales de televisión de España. La Puerta del Sol es un lugar de cita, un lugar de paso entre diversas partes de Madrid. Es visita turística obligada de aquellos que se acercan a Madrid.

No todo tienen que ser flores preciosas y espectaculares. También existen este otro tipo de naturaleza, más vulgar, más sucia, pero que también tiene su encanto.

Amarilis - Hippeastrum vittatum


Amaryllis es un género de plantas herbáceas, perennes y bulbosas pertenecientes a la familia de las amarilidáceas. Este género, oriundo del sur de África, fue descrito por Carlos Linneo en 1753. Desde esta primera descripción, se han incluido en él numerosas especies que -más tarde- fueron transferidas a otros géneros. Permaneció siendo un género monotípico durante la mayor parte del Siglo XX ya que sólo se conocía a Amaryllis belladonna. En 1998, no obstante, la botánica sudafricana Dierdre Snijman descubrió y describió una segunda especie, Amaryllis paradisicola. Comprende 421 especies descritas y de estas, solo 4 aceptadas.
